NORTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA –Business, education, community, and government leaders will attend Workforce Wayne’s Fourth Annual meeting, Wednesday, May 19, 2010, from 10:00 am-1:00 pm at Woodloch Springs Clubhouse. Registration will begin at 9:30 am. Lunch will be provided.

Much has happened since the annual meeting last year, including the successful implementation of the Wall Street West grant and continued sustainability. There have been more than a dozen significant local investors including: The John and Helen Villaume Foundation; Linde Corporation; Wayne Memorial Hospital; WEDCO; PPL; Newfield Foundation; The Wachovia Wells Fargo Foundation; Wayne County Community Foundation; Wayne Bank; Woodloch Pines; Wachovia Community Partners; The Honesdale National Bank; and The Dime Bank.

Workforce Wayne leveraged these local investments and has recently received a $150,000 grant through the PA Department of Labor and Industry. One-third of the grant is slated for Workforce Wayne to continue working toward a future Career & Technology Center, supporting the Community Career & Training Sites, and promoting community outreach. The bulk of the grant will be awarded by a request for proposals process to increase business training and educational opportunities in the area.

"Workforce Wayne is building the connections to private and public grant agencies in order to increase the training and skill building of the community," noted Joann Hudak, Ed. D., Director of Secondary Education at Wallenpaupack Area High School and Workforce Wayne Board Vice-Chair. "The news of the Department of Labor and Industry grant is wonderful, and something we can celebrate at the 4th annual meeting this year," she continued.

The Workforce Wayne partnership includes business, education, employment services, government, economic development and community entities in Wayne and Pike Counties. The partnership has a broad-based framework for workforce development to achieve three overarching goals: strengthen workforce quality, develop career opportunities, and foster a culture of lifelong learning.

The Workforce Wayne Fourth Annual meeting will spotlight business/education partnerships in Wayne and Pike Counties and the planning of a career and technical center (CTC) for our students and adult workers. Lead consultant, Dr. Clyde Hornberger, Executive Director of the Lehigh Career & Technical Institute, will provide an update on the CTC progress to date and vision forward.

Community participation is welcome to help chart the course for 2010 and beyond. Register to attend by May 12th at 570-253-5334 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
